Our statement on the rainbow crosswalks in Burlington

On Wednesday, August 11, the City of Burlington announced the locations of their first three rainbow crosswalks. One of the confirmed locations is outside the HCDSB board office. Halton Parents for Change applauds the decision to add more visibility for the 2SLGBTQ+ community and foster an attitude of love and acceptance.

It's obvious from the community consultation that the Board's decision against flying the Pride Flag in June was not at all in line with what the people wanted; the community has used this opportunity to have their voices heard.

We recognize the allyship of Trustees Guzzo and Agnew, as well as the Board teachers and staff that celebrated Pride Month and our students.

We hope that HCDSB will use this as an opportunity to grow and improve their attitudes in the future.
